How can the terrorism and crime situation in Karachi be solved?

Hasan Nizamani | 12 years ago

Karachi is the commercial hub and the city where most of the revenue for the national treasury is collected, but is as dangerous as Iraq and Afghanistan!
Its not a new problem, but more than two decades old. But is there any solution for it?

I'll suggest a grand army operation.
Reason?
Well the only force which can actually clean sweep the terrorists from the city.
The only force which won't come under any kind of political pressure.

What say?

If you put your Army in controlling situation of such a big city, then who will guard our borders... ??? Purely Army operation will not be a sensible decision for this, but yeah Army can be involved, and it should be

We have a huge army, and only troops in a few thousand is needed for a karachi operation. Even the CAS himself said they're ready for such an operation without any problem if they're called by the government, he said that after a government official said the same thing you said.

@both of you :P
Look guys I'm not saying that Army shouldn't be involved, Army is the need right now. What my point is a complete Army operation in the city of Karachi (how big Karachi is and its population, I think you guys not realizing) is a tough is a difficult decision to take.
You should know that for Waziristan operation approx. 40,000 army was deployed plus round about 500 SSG commandos, and they were against approx. 12,000 militants. Then how can you expect that a grand military operation be carried out in the city of Karachi.
Guys Karachi is city of almost 5 crore population. And if we compare the Karachi situation with Waziristan's then may be in current scenario there may not be this much of militants or terrorist as in Waziristan (this is my perception). But on the other hand there is a population of 4-5 crore as well, and the duty of Military is not just to hold a gun and kill terrorist, they are supposed to guard the civilians in any sort of military operation. Getting my point? I hope so.
No doubt our Army is huge, approx. 650,000 and for a pure military operation in Karachi they'll need to deploy approx. 1-1.5 lacs there. So how can it be a good decision to deploy your almost 20-25% Army in one city???????????
In Khi the para-military forces (Rangers) are made for some purpose, they need to play a role, they are also trained to carry out such operations. Army should form an ally with them to carry out the operation, that would be a good decision I think.

So you guys got my point?? If still you have some other points to make, debate is still on... ;)

First of all rangers was not made for karachi.
Secondly an operation in Karachi is much much important than an operation in Waziristan.
This is the Pakistan's economic hub! If Karachi is infiltrated with militants and terrorists and not dealt with then there is no point killing them in waziristan too.
And you don't get my point. An operation in Waziristan and an operation in Karachi are totally different things. Here they won't have to use heavy machinery or bombs or helicopters or air force.
Tactical operation should be carried out, and the army chief himself said they're ready for such operation if called.
Hasan Nizamani | 12 years ago
and we can't compare Karachi vs Waziristan. Waziristan is an open land with mountains and very less population which can be shifted.
Whereas in Karachi is a densely populated metropolis.
ISI and MI knows the whereabouts and identities of the militants in Karachi, and only Army is bold enough to eradicate them without coming under any political pressure.

So an Army operation is inevitable.

oh man... You are just picking one point out of my point of view on coming hard on that only.. OK you tell how much military will be required to carry out an operation in Karachi?? Rough idea, that too as you have already mentioned without the use of heavy machinery?
Faiq Latifi | 12 years ago
And I haven't said at a SINGLE place that OPERATION IN KARACHI is NOT IMPORTANT and ARMY shouln't be involved in it...
