Are 'engagements' becoming more and more part of Pakistani culture?

Engagement is not encouraged in Islam but unfortunately it was always a part of our culture. Just the way we celebrate it now is different. See before our elders used to decide this and say that ' baat paki ho gai'. This was considered equivalent to engagement. Now as our society is going more towards westernization so we celebrate it more openly.

Yeah they are now part of Pakistan CUM Western culture... WE actually lost our culture... So calling it Pakistani culture would be wrong in my opinion... And engagement is only one thing that we opted from Western culture and is not encouraged in Islam, there are hell so many other things but we are so much into them that we don't even think about...

As far As I know engagement in Islam like an announcement that these to people are getting married so when they are together after nikah, no one can question them but jo engagements humare haan hoti hay that we have adopted from Indian Culture..So now it has become a part of "our culture" ?

Engagements in Islam never allows the couple to roam around and chat to each other .. its just the commitment
Yes it is getting in the culture to have huge engagement ceremonies ... and in some families Nikkah is done & Ruksati and Valima are done later (which is better as compared to engagement according to me) ...

Engagements are definitely becoming a part of our culture like mehendis where most of the time these days i see, there is no mehendi on the bride's hand on that day. No idea why it's called mehendi then. You can stretch it as much as you want to. These "rasmain" have no limits.
