Do Human Beings have a Free Will or their Destinies are Predetermined?

Naveed Javed | 13 years ago

Ok Fellas! This is waht i feel about this!
What I concluded from my life is our destinies are kinda pre-determined; if I look into 23 years of my life, there came so many points when I got contrary to what I always desired for, My father wanted me to become a doctor, I wanna join army but ended as a Software Engineer, also so many things I aspire for didn’t come my way; But em quite happy of where I stand currently coz I have developed the strong belief that what comes in our life is according to the will of ALLAH Almighty who is the best decision maker and what He has given to me is the best for me. Yes if we talk about good and bad, ALLAH Pak has given us wisdom and it’s how we use it; But still I’m of the opinion that what we choose is according to what ALLAH Pak has written in our fate; I’ll share a famous verse of Meer Taqi Meer!
Na`haq hum majbooron per yeh tohmat hai mukhtari ki. Jo chahay so aap karey, hum ko abas badnaam kiya ... Hope you understand the urdu! :)

You were very interested in this question and thought it a serious one. But when I posted some Ayaas and Aahadees for you, you didnt show interest in those sayings. Its either you asked the question just for the sake of it or you are really not interested in those holy sayings. That's sad, watever the case is.

Thanks for the different answer but I have a few things to say
"If everything was predetermined then it gives you an excuse to not even think for yourself" does not prove that determinism is BS. So I can't see how that's a "rational" thought.

I agree that not getting things as you wanted is no support of fate, after all someone else also "wanted" things their way and worked in the opposite direction :P

+1 for your ending, nicely said

He quoted "Awarding of... cannot be based on justice" from his comment above. Please read it in context where its said that such an interpretation of taqdir will make justice impossible. Heres the source, please read page 24 for more details: http://annurlibrary.com/download/E-17.pdf

yup zain.. sometimes i pose questions just to poke people and make them explore.. i am delighted to see people here are pretty rational.. something which i feel is not representative of our general population. i have read your post... thats the only way i reconcile myself with the dilemma. :)

o baba.. agar kahin parh liya to kia gunah ho gaya..
i call it a poking suggestion.. it always starts with suna hai. and is used to convey an idea which the speaker isnt sure he can back up with evidence, probably because he hasent seen the reference or has forgotten. and i for one use it alot in verbal conversations :P
