You know I am actually curious about this one because you guys have the most complicated wedding ceremonies I've seen so far. And, as far as I know, the Islamic wedding is a very simple ceremony. But there is this series of articles about Pakistani weddings you might like to see: http://www.nidalm.com. He photographs weddings. Just look at his blog on his discussion on the Pakistani weddings. I think he also covered Arab weddings.

oh no they are not that complicated. My sister's wedding was quite simple . It vary from family to family

Well, I know about Sindhis or probably Memons, They don't have the walima or the second day, They just have nikah ceremony and dinners after that and wedding is over. The typical one dun go for unnecessary celebrations, Nor the bride wears heavy outfit or jewelery, She wears a sindhi dress n taveez sorta thing with something over the head, i dun knw wht is it called lol : )
And I guess ppl of northern areas have different style too.

:) all those so-called 'rasams' (I certainly do not know all of them) look interesting to me, but not really something I am into. The simple the things are, the better. However, I still wonder what those 'rasams' are for. Something I tend to ask every now and then: "Why do people do what they do?"

Well I totally agree there, the rasams are mostly adopted from Indian culture, Like the sindhi/memon have this rasam, when bride comes and sits besides the groom, she has this "ghooghat" and ppl put minor in front of them, so that the groom can see the bride, and then he puts off the ghooghat.

I do not quite know how things have changed as the last wedding or any such Pakistani function I attended was yeaaaaaaaaaaars back. :O

Same here : P the last wedding i attended was in 1996, I guess people have become more modernized now, specially in Punjab.

obviously .. province don't make the difference its the culture that matters.. so we have different cultures even in same province .

That is very true and you have your point there. I should have put my question differently then. I was curious to know more about the different traditions different cultures in Pakistan follow...since I don't know how many there are, I restricted myself to regional differences.

yes... there are many styles of wedding in pakistan and some of them are also inspired by India ... Punjabi, balochi, Sindhi and Sarhadi are not the only 4 styles ... we have lots more, Family whose roots are in india celebrates in indian styles as well ..> !
