In case of an emergency (medical, etc.), whom should one call? What services are offered in Pakistan and how reliable are they?

It is actually a very good question; i guess everyone should be aware of this, According to my research following are my findings:

So far 1122 is the best known service in case of emergency in many big cities of Punjab, They are very well equipped and are trained professionally and can provide first aid in any case! i don't think they have started yet in other provinces! In Punjab they are now also extending their service to smaller cities; They just started offering the services in my hometown:)

In case of fire we have Fire Brigade services (16 is the number to call them); although not very well equipped but they do their best!

In case of some criminal activity: 15 Madadgar is designated as an emergency number in Pakistan, for mobile phones, similar to the international GSM emergency number 112, if 112 is used in Pakistan, then the call is routed to 15. 112 can be used in an emergency even if the phone is locked and does not have a sim-card in it.

Beside these in many cities there are Civil Defense Organizations; Civil Defense skills are not just for war time emergencies; they are equally useful in the fight against terrorism and applicable during peacetime emergencies. Our efforts in preparing you in case of a crisis can only be successful if everyone takes Civil Defense seriously and responds effectively should the worst happen.

We have EDHI foundation which is the most trusted name in Pakistan when it comes to relief work within distressed areas in Pakistan and the rest of the world. Edhi foundation is a NON Profit organization that has been in the business of providing social services like medical care, emergency services, air ambulances, burial services, mental habitats, old homes, child welfare services, abused women safe houses and training facilities for the disadvantaged..
We also have hundreds of local and national Non-Profit Organizations whom we can contact in emergency times!

15/1122 can be used to redirect to any service. 112 from any GSM handset will forward to the local emergency number.

Well I dnt know much about other cities but in Rawalpindi 'Rescue 1122' is very active in providing the first aid and paramedics, and they are very reliable too. We witnessed a accident once and stopped there, and called 1122, their ambulance was at the spot in 10minz. There headquarter is in pindi buh they have placed their ambulances at different locations so that they acheive timeliness.

In addition to all the information mentioned above, while you are on motorway or on highway, you may contact 130 in case of emergency. They will provide you with ambulance service, mobile workshop etc.

I am totally agree with the first two answers. I think you should mark one of them as best ....
