How can we improve Pakistan's image? With combined efforts

Osama Shah | 9 years ago

We often hear and talk about 'Media War' but do have any attack or even defense in that war? In the recent Osama Bin Laden issue the whole world was talking about Pakistan. We were also talking about them but the difference is that they cannot understand a word that we were\are saying, we don't have a medium (english) where our experts can make the foreigners understand or at least clear our position.
Now about the combined efforts I would like to know what you and I can do? I understand that we cannot start a tv channel or something like coke studio, I also believe that our media is not playing its part in 'improving' Pakistan's image, but are there any other ideas...?
There are things like news websites etc but they don't have an international following or they are unable to achieve that, can we do that?

Why don't we show this? OBL case was hi-lighted so much by internal and external media but why not tell the world about this...do we even care?? Lets wait for something similar to happen in the big cities of PK

Usama something just came to my mind. You have Guides | Top Questions | All Questions
If you can add more tab named something like "Stories" where the members can just post some links that tell some story about Pakistan, mostly success stories. Stories would be commented and rated the same way like questions.
People who are concerned about Pakistan come to this forum, by reading the title of the website. So they would be interested in such stuff about Pakistan. And this would be something you giving them back as they give content to your website, although the links will be provided by the members themselves but still it be Jawab providing this platform and making that information available...

I kinda missed out on perhaps what exactly needs to be done, but the thing is do we have any example of a Nation that tried to improve its image?? I dont think there is any precedence of that sort, the only possible way of doing that is by improving our National conditions, undertaking actions to improve security, working towards a better economy, establishment of quality education institutes that could lead to student exchange programs, this would definitely encourage foreign investment too and thus would result in greater interaction with people from across the world and thus such an objective could be achieved indirectly.

Everyone :)

So we will be needing a team for this, right?
Osama Shah | 9 years ago
yeah I guess it'd take more than one individual to do it in an effective way.
Awais Amjad | 9 years ago
Glad to see the positive response :D Yeah, a collective effort will be needed as it is going to be a huge project. Proper planning, collecting quality videos and deciding the sub categories, all will be required.

1) +1
2) The idea is good for Pakistan but yes we need a motivated team for this
3) This is more like doing the actual thing. Where 'images' can be manipulated, enhanced or anticipated. Working for schools and semestral assignments is great but the goal we are discussing here will not be achieve until we project that on some forum...ours or someone elses.
Osama Shah | 9 years ago
Well, are you not up to the challenge of starting your own forum? :) Everything has to start small and hard. I'm actually just more concerned to pitch this idea to schools because of the tremendous frustration waiting to explode from our youth. You can actually just start it as a visual project. Then if it becomes a forum, from the team's visit to schools, good! :) The Youtube channel is great but that limits our creativity to videos. I have a scattered blueprint in mind but I have the idea. Haha. :)

Aasiyah,
Actually I feel a little stupid of talking about these things once again. I have been into this for quite a long time. I had gathered a team of 400 hundred overseas Pakistanis on Linkedin, I still have the list, everyone of them claimed to do something and contribute in country's betterment. We presented more than a dozen projects but at the end we were left with only 5 people who were actually doing something. After that there were some other platforms too where i tried to make some teams but we Pakistanis are not just ready to do things in practical.
I am up-to every challenge and I have been doing things on individual basis. I have learned from those experiences and now I know if something is worth doing. Most of us are busy with our careers and a heart which hurts for the country. To make a bigger impact there has to be teams, there has to be a platform and other things too.

I feel you bhai. :)
No one wants to sacrifice a little for something long-term. And gathering a team with the same vision and focus is hard. There has to be unquestionable camaraderie and chemistry with each other. And there is also this challenge of working at a distance. We need fieldwork. People who know how to put things into practice and are willing to do so.
May Allaah ta'ala bless us.

The positive change you want to see/bring, okay you tell me how can be improve Pakistan's image? what change you want to see? do you think it's possible for one person to DO it all of sudden?
Zainab Hussain | 9 years ago
Pls dun depend on media now, they are showing what are they paid too.
Zainab Hussain | 9 years ago
Zainab I think you didn't read the question well. I am referring to combined efforts and I also said that media is not doing the job and I asked for ideas that what can you and i do in a collective manner...
Osama Shah | 9 years ago
I did read the que and I gave my point too, that if we need to make our future better, we need to make our kids positive about Pakistan, that actually is the second step of Usama's point, If we keep labeling our selves as "bechari or failed" nation then the kids gonna think the same n wud run away from Pakistan. you have to be the change if you want a change.
