Why do people generally ask questions here?

1 - To gain Hikmats?
2 - To Show Off?
3 - Just because they have been asked to do so?
4 - Now they are here, they feel it their responsibility?
5 - They have nothing better to do at this time so they are thinking of questions to ask?
6 - They have something in their mind bothering them alot?
7 - To get answers of their questions?
8 - To know what's others opinion about certain issues?
9 - There is some sort of addiction that you realize after you've spent a few days here.
10 - Genuine desire for knowledge. "Thirst for knowledge" / cultural etc?
11 - Desire to see name on list on right?
12 - Desire to share knowledge and establish themselves as authority?
13 - Any other reason?

Interesting question and I have myself approached people in private to ask this :P So yeah, I'd like to see responses here too.

I'd like to suggest more options though *forgive me if they're biased, but I just found the ones you gave a little negative :P

Actually Number 6 covers them all. Number 6 actually covers for all genuine needs of asking questions.

"Bothering them a lot" is a phrase that would certainly make me "less bothered" if you know what I mean

I have been here from the start and appreciate the idea of having a platform where I can ask questions, share my somewhat limited knowledge, get to know other people's opinion and have a chance to share my own opinion as well. I want this place to become huge, promote it and tempt people to reflect by adressing certain topics. Since I do not live in Pakistan and generally don't have much contact with it's people, this is one way of filling the gap. Initially the hikmat thing was a motivator, but I won't mind if I do not appear in that top 10 list anymore.

Now you have mentioned it, yes this could be a good place for the people who are not in Pakistan and have so many questions to ask.
As I have seen there are so many people who are willing to answer whatever they can with their limited knowledge. This can really make it a good platform for people outside Pakistan to clear their doubts etc.

On an other thread, you have mentioned and you will be starting you job soon. Trust me, a few months later, you wont have the time to compete with top 10 :-)
You would only be looking for genuine questions to answer where you can really help some one increase his knowledge.

@ Umar: exactly. many things might be way too obvious for those living in Pakistan, but for those living abroad they might be a complete new thing. Pakistan will remain a part of me and I don't want to feel like a complete stranger in my own country. :)

I ASK questions when I don't when I have some confusion/problem regarding something or when I need to know what others think about things. I ANSWER questions to gain hikmats (that u can say showoff) and I feel like now that I have read this question, its my responsibility to answer it. I might be able to help someone. And lastly, Its also for Fun :D Lastly, we have very encouraging admin who keeps motivating us :D

Yup, its the reason the "Hikmat" feature was added. Humans need motivation to do stuff. So nothing bad in it and "show off" might not be correct all the time :P Motivation is a better term :P
