How can we tackle traffic or generally transportation problems in Pakistan?

It depends how the responsible people would plan it, they can make over passes, under passes, separate tracks for big vehicles etc to control the traffic flows. And people should learn some "traffic" manners.

Increase in traffic is directly proportional to the the increase in oil consumption. We are a country that has to import all the petroleum products that we need. But still every morning when we go to offices and schools we watch 80% of the people travelling alone in their cars. Why do we have to do that?
Because we do not have a reliable and a respectable mean of public transportation. We need to encourage private sector to bring mass transportation solutions starting from a good bus services and should plan for metros in the longer run. We can never control traffic unless we provide public transportation facilities for the masses, the roads will always run out of space otherwise, its just a matter of time.
And instead of considering cars as an means of facilitation for us we use them as status symbols, and so educated people are needed to be educated about their responsibilities and humility needs to be inculcated among the upper class to make them consider that there is no harm or degradation in travelling via public transport every once in a while.

Traffic problems and specifically blocked traffic problems can be solved by making lots of underpasses and overpasses instead of signals. Similarly, by making the roads broad, can also help in solving these problems. If some accident happens, ambulance and police should be available immediately.
For general transportation problems, local buses and taxis should be available at low rates, which should be affordable by everyone.

Just wait for your turn and be responsible while driving and think you're superior that you don't want mess. :D

i just got off the subway in vienna.. these things are awsome, i dont need a taxi to go anywhere... and they are darn fast!!!

The best way to tackle this problem is, replace the current traffic police department, and hire people on merit, just like in Islamabad. Then put up huge fines for all traffic violations and make sure everyone pays. Like 5000 rupees for skipping a signal no matter what.

Well within a week or two you won't see anyone breaking those rules. :P

The rules should be enforced strictly ... ! that will help the most ... and if the tarffic police start behaving like one and we start respecting them then this issue can be solved ... plus when the plan is made to rebuild the road then the notification and alternative should should be given in the newspapers so every buddy should know about this ..> !
