The shalwar came from pashtoon culture the kameez came from punjabi\sariki culture so quid-e-azam said lets make a dress that represent merger and union of two cultures and he asked fatimah jinnah his sister to wear one too and so it came into existence and was made national dress of Pakistan as it was modest and was symbol of unity between provinces.

Thanks for replying, wee an other reply says that it happened in the time of Zia ul Haq, or maybe It was not declared as national dress before 1970s.

Zia-ul-haq Enforced it as a only mode of dressing in his dictatorship period all in offices nation wide people whr forced to wear shalwar kameez but it was declared our national dress at the time of Quid-e-azam who came up with the conncept and declared it as national dress .

I think this has been taken from the Sub Continent when Pakistan, India and Bangladesh used represent one country. Shalwar Suit has also the depiction from the Islamic Culture.

Salwar Kameez is the closest to Islamic dress (Evidently there is no such dress as Islmic, but one which covers the body in the maximum possible way). Salwar Kameez does pass this test and probably because of which it is the most preferred dress by women.

Yea its not related with Islam.. Long loose gowns comes closest to Islamic dressing

@Nabeha and @Zainab: The form of that long gown is almost same as Shalwar Suit... The difference is the only length.
