I think they dun have money to waste on such things now, it is actually better but people are also getting awareness about these so called "Islamic festivals" through T.V and Media.
As far as the Basant is concerned.. I guess its banned.

Its combination of all... Ppl are now wise... Children have other more important things to do... Thanks to facebook, twitter, cellphones, games, etc etc etc.... They don't have time for such activities, seriouslyyy! :P
I am learning Urdu as well.
