What should one do if one's Pakistani ID card gets stolen?

Sumi | 13 years ago

What's the procedure? Where should one go? Should police be notified?

Summing up the comments so far alongside my own experience:
If someone stole your Pakistani ID card, you should (1) first go to a police station and get a FIR copy. This is to make sure no one misuses your ID card. In my case I did not do that as I did not know about this step. (2) Then you should take the FIR copy to NADRA so that they can block/cancel your old ID card and issue a new one. In my case, even though I clearly stated that my ID card got stolen, no one asked me for a FIR copy and simply gave me a token to go through the required steps needed to make a new ID card.

Question: Are any further steps needed?
Thank you all for your replies so far! :)

lolz. I don't live in Pakistan and I actually have no idea how it works. Someone suggested me to go to police, but I did not have time for that, so I directly went to NADRA and they did not ask me anything. That is why I was not sure what this whole police thing was all about...and nope, I had no idea that what I did was illegal, since noone told me so and I only did what I was asked to do. :))
haan, had I known you were pointing out the 'having done it illegally thingy', main bhe senti ho ja te :p

Yup this is why I said that you should report to the police first :)

Sorry to oppose but now a days its not possible to use another person's id card to buy a simm card because when u get ur simm activated, the PTA officials will ask you queries for confirmation that are not mentioned on id card but they have them in their records.
So i guess a fake person can definitely buy a sim but cnt use it for sure.. :)

Oh my! How could those people even proceed with the whole thing without asking me to bring a FIR copy first? I guess, I cannot do much now...but thanks a lot for the info! Amazingly NADRA was pretty much empty when I went there this time!
