Why do SOME Pakistanis living in Pakistan act Western?

Sohail | 12 years ago

...before you guys go crazy trolling, remember i capitalized SOME...(minority) but BIG MINORITY...

okay, so for those who know me kind of, knows that I am living in USA...

When ever I call my cousins or just family friends back home in Lahore, Islamabad, Pindi...etc..I talk to them in fluent Urdu...but they reply back in English....

It makes sense if we are chatting but PHONE convo is different....I LOVE URDU, I am glad i know Urdu and can speak very well...not perfect but well & can understand Punjabi (language spoken at home) very well.

Back to the subject, why do Pakistanis in Pakistan think that speaking English or knowing English makes them feel cool? I can easily point out their accent or broken words over the phone but im not mean like that....but it ANNOYS me and makes me sad that people are modernized and forgetting their roots.

Infact, i see some pictures and they are dressed like Western too...guys style their hair in more styles than i see anyone in whole NY....and girls are wearing revealing clothing (short shorts, skirts, sleeveless, etc...) to the extreme...and having parties involving heavy drinking, smoking, drug abuse..etc..

*I absolutely love my Native Land of Pakistan dont get me wrong....AND i know im not perfect either but i do think I know my morals better and was raised under vision and A LOT of Pakistanis who grew up Pakistan.*

Thanks!

& Ill be back to check if i got any answers/comment but if I dont, I wanna say....Ramzan Mubarak to EVERYONE on Jawab.pk.

Much love,

Sohail.

Because the chances are that your cousins would be studying in english medium schools, english cartoons, english newspapers, english channels, hollywood, english operating systems of PCs and cell phones. English has penetrated deeply in our culture. You are complaining about english but here kids are imitating hindi now because all of the star and bollywood culture.
All this is very sad, some people might 'act' but for others all this is becoming a part of them

I totally agree with you. Today's media is the major culprit in corrupting the minds of the society in general and young generation in particular.
