Should duplicate questions be allowed on Jawab.pk?

Duplicate questions can mean questions that are exactly the same OR questions that are different in some ways like being about different cities.

Here, the second question was asked recently because the original question did not provide a satisfactory solution. Jawab.pk has planned a feature that will allow important questions like these to get more coverage but for now the duplicate question issue is pretty important.

I'd suggest that initially the question should be allowed since it could be that the person did not put that much effort into going through the questions already asked (even by not using the tags to facilitate this procedure). However, once it is clear that the exact question already exists, the thread should be closed by a note, which mentions the link that could lead the person to the already existing (old) question. I'd let the question stay for at least one day as people might not necessarily drop by on daily basis.

In case of questions that are duplicate but more specified, I'd suggest you to let them stay completely. One could perhaps make a frame which displays similar questions asked already and link the more specified question as a sub-category to the general question.

U can put a coding in which the code analyze the question and give similar question. Add choice to answer previously asked or add a new one.

You can put a Note for the person asking question to "Search your topic for similar questions before asking a new one". Search-box is right up there...

Well yes that can certainly be done, in fact as Naveed suggested, we could show the person similar questions as soon as they finish writing Summary and move to Tags. But as it happened, in this case (Domicile), the member did not get a satisfactory question in the original thread so she posted a new one.

She could have revived the old question by commenting on it. I mean if there is some activity in some old question its comes in the front lines again ...

Actually no, not at the moment, but that's something worth thinking about! Other than that I'm working on a "guides" feature. It might help solve this problem :)

No, because some questions do require detailed answers. You can add option of 'Polls' in case somebody wants answer among specific options.

I suppose what admin meant to say is that in order to avoid simple answers like "yes/no" etc, should there be a minimum limit of characters which should be introduced. Detailed replies are "always" appreciated. hmm

no. it's a bit awkward and it would look like overtaking someone's question, if you know what i mean. i think what we can do is put the questions on display in a cycle, such that whenever we open the homepage, we do not only see the most recent questions.
