Should duplicate questions be allowed on Jawab.pk?

Administrator | 13 years ago

Duplicate questions can mean questions that are exactly the same OR questions that are different in some ways like being about different cities.

Edited to add this example:
http://jawab.pk/q/what-is-the-process-to-get-domicile-in-pakistan/183
http://jawab.pk/q/how-get-domicile-certificate-in-lahore-whats-its-procedure/791

Here, the second question was asked recently because the original question did not provide a satisfactory solution. Jawab.pk has planned a feature that will allow important questions like these to get more coverage but for now the duplicate question issue is pretty important.

+1 Ok that makes sense but my question still applies. What if the user chooses to ask a new question?

Well yes that can certainly be done, in fact as Naveed suggested, we could show the person similar questions as soon as they finish writing Summary and move to Tags. But as it happened, in this case (Domicile), the member did not get a satisfactory question in the original thread so she posted a new one.

lolz. even virtual life can be cruel :p tobah.
Sumi | 13 years ago
She could have revived the old question by commenting on it. I mean if there is some activity in some old question its comes in the front lines again ...
Hassan Ahmed | 13 years ago
Actually no, not at the moment, but that's something worth thinking about! Other than that I'm working on a "guides" feature. It might help solve this problem :)
Administrator | 13 years ago
By guides I don't mean "Help" or "FAQ". I mean questions that get promoted to "guides"

I suppose what admin meant to say is that in order to avoid simple answers like "yes/no" etc, should there be a minimum limit of characters which should be introduced. Detailed replies are "always" appreciated. hmm

Oh that ... silly me !!
